Many Women Develop Pregnancy Gingivitis

Tags:

It is understandable that the excitement of pregnancy keeps you busy in many ways. A simple word of caution is recommended here: This is an especially important time to look after your dental health.

Actually, some would suggest that this is the time to really pay attention to overall health and well-being. There is an old saying about the number of teeth missing being equal to the number of children a mother gives birth too.

Though certainly not one-hundred percent accurate, there may be a kernel of truth in this. The fact is that women are more likely to develop gum health problems during pregnancy. Hormones have a great role to play in this scenario.

If you are a mother-to-be, pay special attention to your oral health. Do not be content with just brushing and flossing. Consider using  a good oral irrigator, such as a hydrofloss.

Another excellent product to consider would be an oxygenated, ph balanced mouthwash. There are many mouthwashes on the market but very few that harness the power of oxygen with a proper pH. The importance of this should not be overlooked. A mouthwash such as the therabreath brands might be useful.

Chew xylitol gum. Xylitol has been used in Finland since WWII and they have found that the incidence of dental disease is lower as a result. Xylitol is fine for human consumption but keep it away from pets.

Make sure there is someone looking at your gums a little more frequently during pregnancy – just to make sure that problems are not creeping in. As mentioned before, the probability for developing gingivitis / gum disease increases during pregnancy. If you do not know what you are looking for, then you need someone who can help. Besides, it is not so easy for a person to examine her own mouth.

If you prefer a natural approach, Oramd, may be helpful.

Ask your practitioner about your pocket depths and how they relate to the health of your gums and teeth.

Risks and benefits of hiring a midwife

Tags: , , , ,

One of the most notoriously misunderstood professions in the world is midwifery. They are not as popular nowadays but there are still some people who practice it.If you do not know what a midwife does they are the ones who assist pregnant mothers during pregnancy, while giving birth, and even after birthing the baby. The practice is usually questioned by a lot of people about its safety because these midwives are usually not nurses or doctors.Because most midwives perform birthing at the homes of the mothers. In this article we are going to look at some things to determine if midwifery is safe to undergo or not.

Midiwives usually help mothers go through birthing without the use of drugs.  At least that is my experience running a San Diego midwife service. And the delivery of the babies are usually done at homes of the expectant mothers. Those are the reasons why there are so many sceptics out there who say it is not safe. They think that the only safe way of delivering a baby is with the aid of drugs. But that would not be the case all the time.

In fact, these drugs can even slow down the delivery of the baby and can also cause some complications.Midwives do not use the aid of drugs while helping the mothers give birth that is why the delivery would be faster and recovery of the mother would be faster also.  That has been the case so many times in my homebirth midwife San Diego service.A lot of mothers experience speedy recovery when they went natural.

But people do not know the fact that most natural homebirths are only recommended to women that are healthy enough to undergo it.Meaning that if the woman has medical problems before which can endanger the pregnancy or if the pregnancy of the woman is high risk then I will recommend them a hospital delivery.  Generally the women I do assist in my certified midwives San Diego practice are women who have had no history of complications.Once I sense that the delivery is high risk then I would tell them to have a hospital delivery instead.

Hopefully people would realize that there are many precautions before a mother can be allowed to undergo home birthing assissted by midwives.  So when a homebirth is done it turns out wonderful for the family.

Is using a homebirth safe

Tags: , , , ,

One way of delivering a baby is through the use of a midwife. They may not be a nurse or a doctor but a midwife is also a licensed professional. They usually assist in the delivery of babies the natural way.And they usually also do it at the houses of the expectant mothers. This would be the reason why a lot of people question its safety. In this article we would discuss about how safe this method is.

First of all as a San Diego midwife this allows me to answer these questions with knowledge.  The main thing people are concerned about is safety.  Well midwives are trained medically for problems in delivery. And most, if not all, things that might arise during a pregnancy can be handled by a midwife.

The next hing that people are most concerned about this method is the fact that this method is usually done at homes. The concern is there isn’t emergency medical equipment or doctors around.  But in general in my homebirth midwife San Diego service I only take women who are healthy. What I meant was that if the pregnancy is high risk then I would tell them to deliver the baby in the hospital. Or if there has been a history of issues with delivery I will suggest they deliver in a hospital.

That being said contrary to popular opinion a midwife does have the necessary medical equipment in case of emergency. But usually because of the natural birth process you would be surprised to know there aren’t many complications. That is the general experience of my certified midwives San Diego service. The drugs administered during a delivery is what usually causes these compications.  By going natural it avoids some of the usual complications.

Hopefully, after reading this article you would be more inclined to go natural since you have already learned the safety of this method.  So if you are considering a natural birth you should research more. You will be surprised at how beneficial it can be to the baby and the mother. And you will see it is safer than most people think.
