Insurance Sector Eyes Growing Business
There seems to be more reasons than ever to set up your own business than wasting your time applying for a position at someone else’s. UK unemployment rose to 2.5 million people this month and there are similar problems throughout Europe. Despite this though, there is speculation about one strange improvement that happened parallel to this: the fall in those claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance. Perhaps some are simply surviving off money in reserve, but there are indications that many of these people are simply transitioning to self-employment. The sad reality of it all is that a lot of talent is going to waste. Small business is actually an unhealthy sector, 17% of companies are willing to recruit next year. Yet business insurance policies are being bought up in swathes. Why risk a year of rebounding CVs when you could be a competitor to these stagnant companies?
Insurers certainly recognise the need for cover for these emerging companies, and they’re rushing into the market with plenty of appealing packages. Two business types that seem to have been the first to shrug off the recession are certainly not competitors: retail beauty and web-based business. Though it’s hardly entirely intangible, Internet based business still has lesser space requirements than most business. With a ‘make do’ attitude to employee accommodation, the only operational concern is the housing of client’s assets on relatively tiny computing infrastructure. Office insurance policies are savvy to the less extravagant requirements of the net based business concern, though the good ones will accommodate the kind of rapid growth these companies will often experience.
The high street is changing, and recent surveys have suggested that one of the industries getting the best foothold on retail is beauty, which has always had a fine tradition of self-employment and entrepreneurism. Money concious consumers aren’t always inclined to give up their luxuries, and beauty has been booming despite the recession. You should treat yourself from time to time, after all. Salon insurance policies have been drawn up to take advantage of the growth in the customer facing beauty industry. These cover the important public liability concerns that the salon environment throws up.
