A Riving Knife For Increased Circular Saw Safety

Let us face it; woodworking is a trillion times more dangerous than collecting baseball cards. Woodworking safety is makes your hobby less dangerous. Woodworking requires you to be familiar with your tools inside and out. You will also need to know how to use those tools and not loose a knuckle or finger. Safety precautions aught to be observed since nine out of ten shop injuries occur when not.

You’ve no doubt passed by a woodworking shop; and listened as a wonderful melody emanated from inside. The sound of sawing with a circular saw riving knife or hammering blended into music and other sounds such as TV or radio in your shop, can be bad news. Watching the game or news channel while cutting plywood with your table saw, is downright silly. The idea behind limiting distractions in your workshop, especially visual distractions, is to create a safer place for work.

Be safe! Goggles, ear and lung protection is important at all times. Woodworking safety makes sure the worker follows safety precautions. Whether painting birds or collecting baseball cards, remind yourself that appropriate attire helps to keep you safe. Baggy cloths and loose flowing hair are dangerous because they become caught up in your work.

When you rush through a cut or try completing some world too quickly, it can result in disaster. You should pace yourself! It’s only a hobby after all so try not to be hard on yourself. You may not get as much accomplished as you wanted, but there is always ‘man yana.’ Woodworking safety means you shouldn’t force the cut! You probably already know that there are many easier cuts than some others will.

Should it be that your rip fence or your throat plate is un-aligned there are time that the wood will become caught. You should not try to force the wood through the cutting gate or you’ll be likely to loose your knuckle, finger, or hand. While you’re doing a job, you’ll find that the blade will still be spinning after you shut the power down. This is where you practice safety. Before you start digging around the spinning blade wait patiently before you begin.

Your shop is filled with expensive and powerful tools. Organize your mind!
Nonetheless, the most essential tool you have, is your ability to practice woodworking safety. Think about safety measures before you begin. What about all the protection we’ve already discuss and then what about foot protection. Invest in a pair of safety shoes or full boots depending upon your type of woodworking. Before each cut, think about what it is that you’re doing. Before you begin any woodworking activity, you should always briefly rehearse the hand movements only steps away from the power tool so that you will have a bit more confidence before you start.
